My Two Main Interests
These may seem like highly unrelated topics, and in a sense they are. However, these are my two main fields of interest and I believe that maybe I can combine them. I can't seem to choose weather I would rather be in Washington DC attempting to improve our nation, or be in the Colorado mountains attempting to improve my own quality of life.
One of the ways I have already combined these intrests is to join the Green party. This is a political party that has been fighting to preserve the environment against people who don't seem to realize the importance of conserving our natural world. Though they are not necessarily going to win elections, their aim is to get people thinking about the political issues that concern our environment.
There are many oganizations and clubs that recognize nature is deteriorating before our eyes:
- Greenpeace-though some of their views border on radical(i.e. demonstrations, protecting the earth at all costs), this global oganization is doing whatever it takes to protect our planet.
- The Sierra Club-a club that has great information on the environment, nature, and outdoor adventure. It is committed to trying to influence both government and the average citizen to understand the importance of conservation.
- The Wilderness Society-a group that loves the outdoors and wants others to get involved in everything nature has to offer. They are working to protect our wildlands and wildlife here in the United States.
These are some of the major organizations committed to the environment. There are many ways you can get involved. Supporting a group, recycling, even picking up trash on the ground is a start.
