Sayings of the Wise
This page is for anyone who enjoys proverbs and quotes of the wise. I
have collected some wise sayings and quotations that can be very beneficial in
trying to live a life pleasing to the Lord.
Remember all true wisdom is from God. God is a God of truth and wisdom, anything
that is real truth or real wisdom is therefore
of God. With this in mind, many of the sayings that you will find here are
extra-biblical.
I have divided the proverbs into sections.
- Biblical wisdom (sayings from Christian authors or from
scripture itself)
- Extra-Biblical wisdom (just what it says)
- Proverbial wisdom (wise sayings from other
cultures)
- Calvin and Hobbes wisdom ( I
find this to be the most edifying)

If you are interested in more biblical wisdom I suggest reading proverbs, ecclesiastes, song of songs and psalms
Wisdom can be found not only in Scripture but also in other cultures and even
sometimes we might find a none "pious" person dispensing a little truth from
their lips.

altered from his goal.(unknown)
- A friend has earned the right to criticize.(unknown)
- I will let no man drag me down low enough to make me hate him.(B.T.

So, click on the on "Extra-Biblical Wisdom" if you would like more wise quotes.
This stuff sounds like it is right out of Proverbs but it's not. Here are some
examples.
(If you want more than these you'll have to click on "Proverbial
Wisdom")
- After days without reading, talk becomes flavorless.(Chinese Proverb)
- An army of sheep led by a lion would defeat an army of lions led by a
sheep.(Arab Proverb)
- Avoid evil and it will avoid thee.(Gaelic Proverb)
If you do not have time to go through all of these quotes and proverbs then, the
quickest way for you to gain any wisdom at all would be to read though as much Calvin and
Hobbes as possible!!
